Mountain Study 001

Mountains as ancestry — as foundation — as sacred.

A 4x4’ moss structure bound with rope, evoking 금줄 (geumjul) — a left-twisted straw rope traditionally used by Korean shamans and laypeople to mark and protect sacred trees, altars, and thresholds. Incense placed within the structure mirrors what is offered daily at ancestral altars.

This installation draws from a return to Korea — a shift in perspective, a reconnection with origin. In Korean indigenous practices, mountains hold profound significance, appearing throughout folklore, ritual, and daily life.

The heart of Studio MM brought to life.

Rooted in the quiet rhythms of mornings — before the work begins — this gathering reflected the space where ideas take shape. Set within an industrial loft reminiscent of Studio MM’s home and floral studio, every detail mirrored the rituals that nurture the creative process: warm pastries, coffee, and a thoughtfully curated playlist.

Guests were invited to slow down, settle in, and take part in a shared pause — an homage to the moments that quietly shape the work to come.

This workshop honored AAPI Month through the quiet practice of ikebana. Drawing from time spent in Korea and Japan, the session reflected principles of balance, restraint, and intentional form.

Guests engaged in floral composition as a meditative ritual — a study in material, space, and gesture.

Altar — With Tea at Shiloh

Centered on the mindfulness and meditation inherent in ikebana, this gathering invited participants to connect with the earth, one another, and the unseen through the act of floral composition. Each step was guided by meditative prompts led by Mango.

Held during the full moon, the Annex at Tea at Shiloh became a temporary sanctuary for stillness and creative ritual. The evening closed with a guided tarot session by Porsche Little, offering a moment of clarity and calm before parting.
